Description
Hood louver systems for both the 2004-2005 and 2006-2007 Subaru WRX and STI.
Why vent your hood?
This is a key element to improving the cooling system. Reducing the pressure behind the radiator and other heat exchangers creates a larger pressure differential between the front and rear of those cooling components. The larger the differential, the greater the airflow. Reducing underhood pressure also cuts down on lift under the front of the car – thus improving downforce.
Developed for Motorsports
We designed our first STI hood louver system for the Jager Racing STI. This 600+hp Time Attack car has massive cooling needs and the team knew they needed well-designed and functional vents.
The Jager Racing team supplied us with the same airflow and pressure testing that we usually perform ourselves on any new chassis. Based on those test results we designed this WRX/STI louver system to be the most optimized and effective set of vents possible for this chassis.
Features of the kit
Our kits feature an integrated gurney flap design: a vertical fin at the front of the main center vent creates a low pressure pocket above the length of the vent. Other vents on the market are not designed around actual airflow testing on the car and do not include this feature.
This is a DIY part. That said, we’ve thought about ease of install from the beginning and you get a full vinyl cutting template specific to the 04-05 or 06-07. The cut template removes all of the guesswork from your install – just stick it on and it shows you where to cut. Also included is rubber trim that fits around the circumference of the holes, making it easy to achieve a clean and finished look.
The louvers ship flat (unbent), you bend the fins when you receive them, and you’re free to finish them however you prefer. Powdercoat will have great longevity, but even simple Rustoleum flat black looks fantastic. Another great tip is to go down to your local NAPA and they can paint match to your car’s color and mix it up in a spray can for under $10.
